2018/19 Season Wrap Up – ESNZ Premier League
Well what a frantic end to the season that was. First Takapoto, then straight into Horse of the Year and then a fantastic (if slightly damp!) show at Glistening Waters where all the Series Finals were held. Now that we have caught our breaths, New Zealand Jumping is going to take the opportunity to have a look back on the season and review a number of the Series that were decided over the summer. The first one we will look at is the ESNZ Premier League.
This Series is conducted across the Premier League shows of the summer, to determine the best overall jumping horse. Windermere Cappuccino was the clear winner. With Tegan Fitzsimons in the saddle, this combination swept all before them this season, including taking out the FEI (NZ) World Cup Qualifying Series. In the six rounds they competed in, they recorded two wins, two seconds and two third placings to dominate the point score. Such was their lead after the second last round, that they had the Series sewn-up prior to the Glistening Waters Series Finals event and did not compete in that round. There could be no more deserved winner of the Stewart Tucker Zedco Cup.
Second place in the series went to Cortaflex Graffiti MH, ridden by Hasting local Melody Matheson. They competed in nine classes and just knocked LT Holst Andrea, ridden by Brooke Edgecombe from Waipukurau into third by a margin of two points. LT Holst Andrea might be considered a touch unlucky as it competed in two less events and Cortaflex Graffiti MH.
